Do you have the ability to inspire others? I think you do. I do too. ‘Inspire’ is defined as: ‘to encourage or to stimulate somebody to do something–to a greater effort, enthusiasm or creativity. Another interesting definition is ‘to breathe in’.
I think the two definitions go hand in hand. When you encourage someone you are actually speaking life, new energy and ‘oxygen’ into the person you are talking to, allowing him or her to ‘breathe in’ the power they need to continue-on or excel.
We have that ability. If you do not think you have it, then think of it as being opposite of the words you speak when you gossip or say something bad about someone; or say something cannot be done.
You can also inspire through your actions. Greet a person instead of avoiding them. Smile—just because you choose to be happy because you are alive –in spite of life’s situations.
It only takes you to make a few minor adjustments to become a dynamo of optimism. You do not even have to be phony or false in your opinion or advice. You can honestly tell someone “that dress doesn’t look right—but you have good taste”… that encourages them to find something better to wear; or “that might work if you tried this too”… that encourages them to think a little harder about what you think to be a lame idea. Or, you could bring a hug, a touch or an encouraging word to someone in despair. It only takes you to look for the good in a situation for you to be inspiring.
Ever heard these words: “ye are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13-16)?
You are a flavor of life—that little ‘something-something’ extra that ads to the whole of mankind which makes you unique. Use your uniqueness to inspire. You have what it takes.
